After Hannity posted the video clip to his Twitter account, he was met with applause from both sides of the pond. One supporter tweeted: “Irony: Prince Harry is protected to criticize by the very thing he is criticizing.” Another Twitter user invoked the late Princess Diana: “Didn’t he and the wifey leave the Royals so he could have freedoms??? Duh. My goodness his mother is rolling over in her grave … smh.” A man identifying himself as British tweeted: “Can i reinforce that Harry’s views are his — or [Meghan’s] — not that of most Brits and we are more fed up with him than you are. You can keep them both. Even with a valid receipt we don’t accept returns, thank you, have a nice day.”
Still, there were a few Prince Harry supporters who chimed in, accusing Hannity of homing in on one word out of context. During the prince’s appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Harry opined that today’s media is trying to “redefine” free speech and privacy in order to “make more money and they can capitalize off our pain [and] grief.” It was then that he added, “I’ve got so much I want to say about the First Amendment. I still don’t understand it, but it is bonkers” (via Daily Mail). One Twitter commenter slammed Hannity for not getting all the facts: “You didn’t listen to the podcast or you wouldn’t be posting this garbage.”

Hannity also pointed out that the Constitution’s protection of free speech allowed Harry and Meghan Markle to publicly criticize the palace during their interview with Oprah Winfrey. “You and Meghan were allowed to accuse your own family of racism,” he said.
The host did concede the downside of this particular right, saying that he has been the target of nasty comments and calls for “canceling” for expressing his conservative opinions. Still, he held firm on his love-it-or-leave-it stance. “We don’t really need lectures about customs or sacred freedoms, and by the way you’re free to go home, make amends at the Palace with the people that you and your wife hurt deeply.”
